DS – the original. A nornal screen and touch screen. Two slots, one for DS games, the other for GBA games.
DSlite – smaller version of the original but basically the same.
DSi – slightly bigger than the DSlite with bigger screens. The GBA slot has been removed. There is now an SD card slot on the side for storing games/music/pictures/etc… It has 2 cameras, a music player (aac), and it’s own shopping channel for downloading games and apps. It can play all DS games but can’t use the old R4/M3 cards. Some newer games have DSi only features and/or run better on the DSi than the DSlite and in the near future they might make games specifically for the DSi. The security is better than the lite.
DSiXL – EXACTLY the same as the normal DSi just bigger and comes pre-loaded with 2 of the titles from the DSiWare shop (the DSi could get the apps but you had to use your 1000 free points to get them, whereas with the XL they’re already on the console for you).
3DS – the next console in the DS range. It will have 3D features that use the camera in the hinge to find out where you are and so when you move or the camera moves it changes the perspective of the pictures on screen making it look 3D. I think they also said something about 2 touch screens but that might have been for a DS after the 3DS.
They stopped selling the original DS a while ago but you might be able to get one at second hand stores/car boot sales and online at places like ebay. They still sell the lite the i and the iXL. I think it’s either later this year or early next year when the 3DS will be released (although it will be released in Japan a few months earlier than the rest of the world so if you can read Japanese you could get one then.
There are 4 kinds of DSs
The DS, DS lite, DSi and DSi XL/LL
Nintendo does not sell the original DS anymore. The DS lite is the successor of the original one, but it has been replaced by DSi and the DSi XL/LL. Both the original and the lite have been phased out. There are no differences between the original and lite except the entire machine looks entirely different. The DSi and the DSi LL/XL have more features, such as online game store, camera and different OS. The only difference between the DSi and the DSi XL/LL is the size. I would recommend the DSi because the DSi XL/LL is very big(not pocket friendly) and the images are more pixelated than the DSi.
DS Lite is smaller, plays ds games and gba games aswell as having a brighter screen.
DSI and DSI:XL play DS games, lets you download DSI:Ware which are smaller games, has cameras built into it. And can play music. The XL has a screen thats almost twice as large while the dsi is similar to the ds light in size. Main thing is you lose the GBA games with these ones.
at our store they sell the DS lite the regular ds is ‘phatter’ but the dsi and the dsi xl are getting much bigger and slimmer and have alot more functions like camera and down loadable games i personlay have the DS

Hi this is Amie.
Since I was little kid I was a great fan of Nintendo games, and over time I think I got all their consoles and tons of games. My problem was always where to find the latest information on my new game console and games. When Nintendo decided to launch the DSi XL I decided to create this site which gathers the latest news, videos and tricks. I hope you like it!
